This is covered in the FAQ, but I really need to verify this issue as 15 foot scaffolding will be involved if I need to work on/replace the fan. Again I apologize.
We have a ceiling fan, with lights, that have separate switches. Additionally, the fan and light switches are are not located next to each other on the wiring switchplate(there are four total switches). My wife said she flipped the light switch and she heard a pop. The lights and fan are not operating, but the other switches on the plate operate their respective fixtures. I checked the breaker and other outlets/fixtures in the house(nothing unusual). The fan unit has been in place for three years(Hunter), but I did not build the house, so I don't know the complete electric diagram. Does this sound like I should just get a replacement for the fan, or should I consider something else might be wrong? Thank you greatly!

I'm assuming it's not a remote fan.
First check the wiring inside the switches, make sure both the fan and light switches are seeing 120vAC.
Then, get your scaffolding and check the wiring at and in the fan.
Since both the fan and light are out it is clearly a wiring issue.
