This particular fan operates via remote. Anyone know how to disable the remote and run the fan directly from the switch?

I've actually found the oil-filled ones at Grainger, very similar to what's in most Emersons from the 70s and 80s. Clips fit right on, simple swap out.

You can use either the oil filled can or the black box type, just make sure it is the same value.

FWIW the oil filled cans are most often used in heavier duty applications.
