I have a ceiling fan with 3 speeds and a light all controlled by remote.
Everything works perfect except for the "off" button located on the remote
You cant tell it sends the signal because you can hear the little chirping noise when you press the off button.....If the fan is on high and u press off button it will reduce speed to medium.if fan is on medium it will reduce speed to low. But the off button does not stop the fan regardless of what speed it is on. Just wondering if there is a problem with the wiring or the remote?
Only way to stop the fan is to hit the circuit breaker outside.
Any suggestions......????

I'm sure you know they take the oil filled kind, either 4 or 5 uf (seems to be random which one), and it's located in the top of the motor - hence, you will need to take the fan down to access it, and you'll also need a set of Allen wrenches to remove either the downrod or the hanger piece so you can take off the canopies. You could put in a black box capacitor, but you'd either need to secure the wires to the clips or cut off the clips and use wire nuts accordingly. Either way, I wouldn't put higher than a 5uf in there though. « Last Edit: Jul 21, 2011, 10:30pm by JW »

Thanks, JW. I'd like to replace it with the black box kind. I'm betting the oil-filled ones are hard to find now.
