I have a Minka Aire fan with a wall control that put itself into reverse. When we hit the reverse button it will slow down then speed up to high and then go back to whatever speed it was on, still in reverse. We tried replacing the wall control with a hand held remote along with the receiver and it still does the same thing.

If it was previously running fine, and the blades spin freely by hand, replacing the cap should solve the problem.

Blenderfan is fixed! The original cap was a 5uf also, it was an oval one, though. I made the round one fit. Glad that's all it was!

I'm sure it was the original one, too. Not bad for 30 years! It was made by Mallory, who I think used to make ignition parts for cars.
$5.00 is dirt cheap to keep a neat fan going!
