What are the risks of having one remote control control several fans? To the fan and to the receiver?

If it was previously running fine, and the blades spin freely by hand, replacing the cap should solve the problem.

There may be something going wrong with the circuit board in the switch housing, like a capacitor going out or something. Not sure if replacement parts are available, Dan might know, but it should be repairable either with a new board or replacement of some parts on the existing board.
