A house I am renting has two HB ceiling fans installed on a screened porch. The previous tenant left one remote which operates (only) one of the fans just fine including on/off, light, fan speed, etc. Is it possible to get the single remote to operate the second fan too? Simultaneous operation of functions is OK and even desirable.
Both fans operate from separate wall switches so I'm sure I have power to both. I've also verified the four dip switches on both fans are set the same and match the settings inside the remote. Because there are no external pull chains on this model, I can't verify all functions on the fan that the remote doesn't work. The fan operates on/off from the wall switch at the medium fan speed setting.

If both fans are set to the same dip switch setting, the remote should control both. If it does not, something is defective.

Is there a way to troubleshoot and/or repair what is defective or is that more trouble and expense than it is worth? I'm reasonably handy and just replaced a broken pull chain switch in another Hunter fan inside the house.
At least the fan is currently operational at one speed from the wall switch.

I have peeked in the motor cowling and see that the dip switch housing is a small, rectangular box. Is that the receiver for the remote signal? Could that be the defective part? If so, is it replaceable? Internet research shows that Hampton Bay is an exclusive Home Depot brand and that this model was sold in the late 1990s. Since HD is a big box store, I would doubt they would sell small replacement parts so I'm guessing I would have to buy elsewhere.

How big was this black box?

What I could see without removing the fan cowling was a plastic box just big enough to house the dip switches. Maybe 1" long and 1/2" wide. I can probably remove the cowling but, because this is an outdoor fan in a coastal location, the cowling screw is pretty rusted. I really don't want to try to remove it unless there is a reason too because it just might wring off?
