Ceiling Fan Help \ Ceiling Fan Problems \ fans that move air at slow speeds
chester Posted on 8/27/2009 8:34:22 AM

I have a ceiling fan in my family room, it is an 30yr old Emerson 4 blade 52" chromalux fan, it is failing, speeds go up and down by itself and will not go up to max speed as it once did for the last 29yrs.checked the power and switch it is ok, fan spins freely so it is not any bearings, the blades are 14" from the ceiling. we want to replace this unit with a new type that runs in reverse also, and if possible will move more air that the old fan at slower speeds, can I achieve this with the newer fans today, looking for some model suggestions and pages where I can check them out.

thanks
Chet

First, send me a picture of the old fan. The bearings are probably going out.

I just reread your post. I still think bearings but could also be the capacitor.

If you remove this fan I would be interested in it.

What is your budget for the new fan? How big is the room, and how tall is the ceiling?
