Ceiling Fan Help \ Ceiling Fan Problems \ Rhine UC 7058 ry Remote receiver blown up !!
Gotcha Posted on 8/12/2009 12:13:22 PM
Who can help !! My Hampton Bay ceiling fan died, I removed the remote receiver because it smelled burned, it was not nessasary to open because the housing was melted. I tried for several days to find online or in a store a new receiver without any result. Anyone know where I can buy this ?? Will it be possible to use the fan without the remote control / receiver. I thinks it must be possible to use the 4 uF capacitor from the receiver box and connect this between the wires of the fan motor. Next question : how do I connect this capacitor, I have four wires, probably it is in serie with one of these wires to the negative ( zero ) wire from the 110V. In this way I can use my ceiling fan in one speed. Please help to find a way to get my fan working.

Andy.

can you get a whole new remote kit for the fan.
plus you may need a new fan because if the remote blew up the resulting surge may have fried the motor

You dont need a new motor. You order a new receiver from Hampton Bay, their number is in our sticky.

I had similar problems with my Casablanca fan. It also uses the same Rhine recv. I found a replacement at their website.

Unfortunately, its $68 retail. I looked inside the recvr and even though I'm an EE, its more than I want to get into without a diagram. It looks like the motor control does some phase shifting to control the power. Nothibng looks burnt or melted soooo... good luck to both of us. m2
