Ceiling Fan Help \ Ceiling Fan Problems \ pull chain fan switch wiring
mkrmarks Posted on 3/14/2008 9:00:53 PM
I have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan/light. The pull chain switch broke so I bought a new replacement. Everything seemed rather straight forward, but it is not working correctly.

The Old Switch has positions L-1-2-3 and the incoming wires are Black - Yellow - Red - Blue

The New Switch has the same positions L-1-2-3 and I thought I had the wires exactly like the old wiring. It was, L=Black, 1=Blue, 2=Red, and 3=Yellow. However all three positions run at the exact same speed, which is fast.

What did I miss, or is the new switch defective?

Thanks for the assistance,
Mike

You probably do not have the correct replacement switch. Obtain one from the manufacturer or from http://www.ceilingfanparts.com

The fan had been purchased at Home Depot and the replacement switch was purchased from Home Depot per their recommendation. So, I have to think it is the correct switch.
Any other ideas?

I think you're wrong. Get a switch from Hampton Bay.

Where can I buy a Hampton Bay pull chain fan switch? I need the Hampton Bay company, no substitutes.

The number for Hampton Bay is in the sticky at the top of the forums. Otherwise, try http://www.ceilingfanparts.com
