I came home today at lunch and the bedroom ceiling fan (ceiling hugger style) had been left on. While I was home, it began making a loud alarm noise, like a car alarm. I turned off the fan at the switch, but the alarm continued. After checking it out (it was slightly warm to the touch), I went downstairs and turned off the circuit breaker, and the alarm stopped. I waited ten minutes and flipped the breaker again, and it strated making the alrm noise again. I left the breaker off.
The fan is about 15 years old and has worked fine until this noise. It turns off at the wall, no remote, just a simple fan and light.
Do any of these fans have alarms built in for overheating, worn bearings, smoke alarms, etc?
I'll take it down tonight and check it out, but right now I am perplexed.

i dont think they make fans with alarms, but however i do think either it is the motor or the bearings squealing

Fans dont have alarms. Sounds like a coincidence to me.

What I mean to say is, it was something else on the circuit making that noise. Fans can run 24/7.
