The remote works fine to adjust the speed of the fan (low, med, high). However, I am not able to dim the light or turn the light on/off.

Did it work originally, and then stop working?

yes it did work perfectly. The fan is maybe two years old. This problem just arised a few weeks ago. Something else to note, before it stopped working the light would mysteriously go on by itself as well as the fan. If I shut the fan off for dinner or something a few minutes later it would go on by itself. Ghosts? ha ha... Any ideas of whats up with it? I tried a new battery to let you know and just the fan works with the remote. I talked to Home Depot and they said sometimes its the sensor in the remote, but to contact you guys for further suggestions.

I doubt Home Depot would direct you to us . . .
Try changing the frequency of the fan and remote, as per the instructions on our site, but assuming that does not fix it you will likely need to replace the receiver.
I'm also assuming when you attempt to control the light from the remote, the LED on the remote still blinks.

You're right...Home Depot told me to contact Hampton BAy directly but I cant find a number on there web page.
I will try to change frequencies, but I can not find the transmitter on the fan. Any suggestions to where it is located? I have a Hampton BAy fan model 740 154 Mediterranean.
And yes the LED light does come on when I press the dimmer but nothing happens.
Thanks for your replies so far

Their number is posted right here, on these forums.
Usually the receiver is in the ceiling canopy, sometimes it is in the motor housing or above the light kit.
