I've had a Hampton Bay Redington ceiling fan for at least eight years, with no problems until a couple months ago. It's silver with black blades and four adjustable lights. It operates by remote control.
First, the fan turned on by itself, running on HIGH. A few weeks later, the lights turned on by themselves. I had to press the button on the remote twice to turn them off.
This afternoon I turned the fan on LOW for about two hours. When I tried to turn it off, it just kept going. Now it won't respond to the remote at all. We changed the battery in the remote with no results. I can't check the dip switch on the fan because it's still spinning.
What should I do?

Probably a bad receiver. Does the fan have pullchains?

plus another thing to remember, some hampton bay fans like mine, you cannot use a remote on the unit. if you use a remote on a fan that cannot handle it you will end up having problems and, that will shorten the life of the fan

The only fans that cannot handle a remote unit are Hunter Originals or those with a fluorescent or neon light.
