Ceiling Fan Help \ Ceiling Fan Problems \ Old GE Fan

I have an old (1930's??)small GE ceiling fan that I recently installed in my house. The fan is a single speed model and it spins so fast that it makes a loud noise. I was wondering if I can put a dimmer switch on the fan circuit to slow it down. Is this safe or would it blow the motor?

A quick google search using: 'fan motor speed controller' as the search criteria turned up lots of possible solutions. The best option would be to match the current the motor draws (probably on a plate somewhere) to the speed controller.

Do NOT use a regular light dimmer. The inductive load of the fan motor won't be too happy with it.

Good luck.

Yes, any transformer based or solid state motor speed control will work. A capacitor based speed control probably wont.
