Ceiling Fan Help \ Ceiling Fan Problems \ Hampton Bay excessive motor noise in slow speed

This started earlier this year, the fan is probably about 4 years old.

When the fan is running is the slow speed (it has 3 speeds) there is a pretty loud hum. I do not know if its bearing noise though because if I speed the fan up it goes away.

I do not think that these motors use brushes so perhaps its a cap or the motor is just going south.

Are parts available for these or should I start looking for a new fan?

TIA

Sorry forgot to mention that the fan spins freely with the motor off if that helps.

PROBABLY just a cheap fan. Bad caps rarely cause hum. Try the troubleshooting instructions on our site that pertain to hum and tell me if that helps.
